Angular-planar CMB power spectrum

چکیده
Gaussianity and statistical isotropy of the universe are modern cosmology's minimal set of hypotheses. In this work we introduce a new statistical test to detect observational deviations from this minimal set. By de ning the temperature correlation function over the whole celestial sphere, we are able to independently quantify both angular and planar dependence (modulations) of the CMB temperature power spectrum over di erent slices of this sphere. Given that planar dependence leads to further modulations of the usual angular power spectrum C`, this test can potentially reveal richer structures in the morphology of the primordial temperature eld. We have also constructed an unbiased estimator for this angular-planar power spectrum which naturally generalizes the estimator for the usual C`'s. With the help of a chi-square analysis, we have used this estimator to search for observational deviations of statistical isotropy in WMAP's 5 year release data set (ILC5), where we found only slight anomalies on the angular scales ` = 7 and ` = 8. Since this angular-planar statistic is model-independent, it is ideal to employ in searches of statistical anisotropy (e.g., contaminations from the galactic plane) and to characterize non-gaussianities.

A Blind Estimation of the Power Spectrum of Cmb Anisotropy from Wmap
The angular power spectrum of Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) radiation has proved to be an excellent observation to measure different cosmological parameters. In order to extract cosmological parameters precisely we need to remove foreground contamination as well as detector noise bias. In this paper we present a framework to extract CMB angular power spectrum from the multi-frequency observ...
متن کاملSquared temperature-temperature power spectrum as a probe of the CMB bispectrum
It is now well known that mode-coupling effects associated with certain secondary effects generate higher order correlations in cosmic microwave background ~CMB! temperature anisotropies, beyond the two-point function. In order to extract such a non-Gaussian signal at the three-point level, we suggest a two-point statistic in the form of an angular power spectrum involving correlations between ...

The remarkable improvement in the estimates of different cosmological parameters in recent years has been largely spearheaded by accurate measurements of the angular power spectrum of Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) radiation. This has required removal of foreground contamination as well as detector noise bias with reliability and precision. Recently, a novel model-independent method for the ...

متن کاملGravitational Lensing Effect on Cosmic Microwave Background Anisotropies: a Power Spectrum Approach
The effect of gravitational lensing on cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropies is investigated using the power spectrum approach. The lensing effect can be calculated in any cosmological model by specifying the evolution of gravitational potential. Previous work on this subject is generalized to a non-flat universe and to a nonlinear evolution regime. Gravitational lensing cannot change ...
